LETTER TO MEIK

MEIK VON DER EICHENDORFSCHULE
POLICE K-9
May 22, 1984 - February 23, 1997

Meik, I know you've gone to the place
where you can chase rabbits all the time,
Where you can run and play ball again.

You were much more than a dog to me.
You were my partner, my protector, my guardian,
and most of all, you were my best friend.
You were always there when I needed you, and never complained.

Remember going to camp every year? You got to chase a deer, but I bet you'll
always remember the first time you saw a skunk.
You caught the bad guys for me. You kept the bad guys from hurting me.
And you did it all just for my love. No rewards, no money; just because
you loved me, and I loved you.

You rode on an airplane all the way from Germany to be with me,
and I remember how happy you were to be out of that crate and see some grass!

Remember rolling in the snow, playing ball?
Remember going to the schools and having all the children love you?
Playing in the woods, playing at the park, or just playing ball at home.
You can do all those things now, anytime you want.

You were an officer of the law. A police dog. Not many dogs get to
be a police officer. And you were the best!
You always knew when it was time to go to work.
You got so excited when I put on my uniform.
You'd run back and forth from the door to me, like you
were saying, "Hurry Up!". You loved going
to work, riding in the car, seeing people and seeing the sites.
And catching those bad guys.

There were so many good times, Meik. So many that I can't
remember them all. Visiting places, seeing people, having fun,
doing the things that you loved to do. And I loved them too, because
you were having so much fun.

I will always remember you, Meik. And I will always love you. Watch
me from Heaven, because I know, all dogs go to Heaven.

Good-bye, Meik

P.S. - Watch over and help Xaros along now. You'll be great friends.
